Why Did I Fail?.
If you fail the driving test it's because
you have committed at least one serious or dangerous fault. Now nobody drives perfectly all of the time and it's quite
likely that you will make some errors whilst on your driving test.Driving examiners are trained to spot all faults committed
and categorize them .
A Dangerous Fault
A dangerous fault is one which actually caused danger at the time, just one of these and the test is
failed .
A Serious Fault
A serious fault is when the fault committed is one likely to cause danger, eg poor observation procedures or a fault
that is repeated throughout the test ,eg continuous stalling when moving off.Failing to carry out the manoeuvres to a satisfactory standard will
also result in a fail.
Driver Error
Some errors made are commonly known as 'minor errors'.These are faults which are not dangerous and
unlikely to become that way if repeated but your examiner will record these on your marking sheet . You won't fail the test
unless 16 or more of this type of fault are recorded .Obviously these are not desirable but you are very unlikely to drive
without making any mistakes at all so you need to keep them to a minimum.
Common Reasons For Failing
Observation at Junctions: *Ineffective* observation and judgment.
Reverse Parallel Parking: *Ineffective* observation or lack of accuracy.
*Ineffective* Use of Mirrors: Not checking or not acting on what is seen.
Reversing Around a Corner: *Ineffective* observation or lack of accuracy.
Incorrect Use of Signals: Not canceling or giving misleading signals.
Moving Away Safely: *Ineffective* observation.
Incorrect Positioning: At roundabouts or bends.
Lack of Steering Control: Steering too early or too late.
Incorrect Positioning: When turning right at junctions and in one way streets.
Inappropriate Speed: Going too slow or being hesitant.
Road Signs and Markings :Incorrect course of action
*Ineffective*
This means that you did not use good judgement on whether it was safe to proceed or not.Obviously it applys to both situations and although you should'nt carry on if it's not safe to do so, you should continue to make progress if it is.
